High School Diploma Program
The high school diploma program provides students with the opportunity to take the remaining courses needed to graduate from high school. These courses are taken primarily online and are built around your schedule. Certified teachers will assist you with studying, taking tests, and other activities necessary for the completion of your courses.
Enrollment Criteria:
- Students must be 17 years of age or older.
- Students must officially withdraw from their high school.
- Students of age 17 must meet with and be approved by the District Five Student Services Officer.
- All fees must be paid prior to starting classes.
- If a student has an IEP, prior to enrollment, an IEP meeting will be held to determine if Adult Education is an appropriate educational setting for the student.
- Diploma students must bring an official, signed transcript from their home high school.
- Each student’s transcript will be evaluated by the Adult Ed Coordinator.
In order to receive a South Carolina High School Diploma, each student must satisfy the following requirements:
Successfully complete 24 Carnegie units of coursework:
- English Language Arts - 4 units
- Mathematics - 4 units
- Science (Biology I required) - 3 units
- U.S. History & Constitution -1 unit
- Economics & Personal Finance - 0.5 units
- U.S. Government - 0.5 units
- Other Social Studies - 1 unit
- Computer Science - 1 unit
- Physical Education or ROTC - 1 unit
- Foreign language or Career and Technology Education - 1 unit
- Electives 7 units
- Total - 24 units
